West Tampa Little League - Coach Pitch Division - Baseball
Our Coach Pitch Division is for Players aged: 5, 6, 7 and in some cases, players aged 8 who have no baseball experience.
The goal of coach pitch is for the continuing development of players so that they can learn to hit off pitching and to increase their arm strength. The next division up at West Tampa is Minor B, where players pitch from 42 feet, Minor B is the first competitve division in Little League where coach pitch is not, to qualify for Minor B baseball, your child shall tryout and must be selected to a team.
Minor C Coach Pitch Rules
- Coach pitch only, no player pitch.
- The Time Limit for Minor C games will be 90 minutes.
- An inning ends when a team scores 5 runs or 3 outs are made.
- A batter gets a total of seven pitches per at bat. A tee can be used on the 7th pitch (optional).
- Umpires are not required. The offensive team's coaches will be responsible for calling outs.
- After 3 strikes, the batter is out. There will be no called strikes, only swinging strikes. Regular foul ball rules apply.
- When a ball is hit to the outfield, runners can advance multiple bases. Once the ball is thrown into the infield and controlled by a defensive player, play is halted. Runners past the halfway point may continue to the next base with the chance of being put out. If they are not past the halfway point when the ball is controlled by a fielder, they must return to the previous base. If the infielder throws the ball after it is in their control, the runners may continue to advance.
- There is no stealing.
- Safety baseballs (tee balls) should be used, not hard leather baseballs.
- Bats: Regular Minor League bat rules apply. Tee Ball bats are permitted in Minor C Coach Pitch as long as tee balls are being used.
- Two (2) coaches are allowed in the outfield during the defensive inning. They are not allowed to assist in retrieving the ball in any way. They are only there to give instruction.
- Little League rules call for 9 players defensively, but for West Tampa home games, we will allow up to 10 players on the field defensively.
- Continuous batting order will be used.
